An international five-year programme involving a wide range of partners has been launched with a long title - Models for Implementing Multiple-use Water Supply Systems for Enhanced Land and Water Productivity, Rural Livelihoods and Gender Equity. Fortunately it is also known as MUS for short. See www.musproject.net for more information.
Water, Households and Rural Livelihoods (WHiRL) is a research project that focused on promoting access of the poor to sustainable water supplies for domestic and productive uses in areas of water scarcity in South Africa and India. More information can be found at www.nri.org/whirl
Many continents suffer from large volumes of untreated wastewater. Yet, poor (urban) farmers can use this wastewater as a very welcome source of water and nutrients for agriculture and make a living out of it. The joint WASPA programme will focus on decentralised wastewater management approaches for peri-urban neighbourhoods in secondary cities and towns.
